The Young Enterprise Disaster: Part 3 What I learned

The Young Enterprise Scheme taught me a lot, some of it negative, some of it more positive, but all of it useful.

In terms of the group as a whole, I learned things about them as people. I found out how incredibly unenthusiastic they were about this project, the idea and the lack of effort they were going to put into it. I also found out who the liers were and the just plain lazy ones were. I also found unexpectedly a couple that really wanted the idea to work, despite the fact that they did not agree with the concept, as I didn't.

Furthermore, I learned some valuable things from our groups mentor who was an MD of a large business in Manchester. He traveled a great distance every week to try and help our group, to see how we were doing etc. I seemed to be the only one that talked to him at all, but as such I learned a very valuable thing about myself: I was good at this kind of stuff!

This seemed to be a revelation to nobody apart from myself, because this began the change of course from attempting to go down the Engineering path which I had originally set my sights on; I changed and instead went on to Business/Entrepreneurship. I found that this kind of thing

I also learned a fair bit about the process of setting up and running a website. I also found out how hard it is to get into the top page rankings on Google in such a competitive market. This was my aim but after the almost collapse of our enterprise group after our MD left I did not deem it worth my time and effort. However, in hindsight I would love than knowledge right now.

I also learned much about the organisation of things, as I basically organised and completed both of the trade fairs that we attended. At these trade fairs, I also did all the talking. Not blowing my own trumpet or anything but it is a fact. I was the only one that stayed with eh stands all day, and the only one who spoke to more than 2 people. I learned from this that basically I don't really care what people think of me, and that I was willing to take a chance, a risk or go that little bit out of my comfort zone. This was definitely a revelation to me, but now I have found out I am trying to use that skill to try and make my way in the world.

In conclusion, I learned as much about myself as I did about those who I was working with and my job (website designer). Actually I probably learned more!
So, despite the failure of the group I think I learned more about stuff including myself, than in any of my more successful ventures!
As such, it wasn't really a disaster from my perspective, but an awesome learning experience.

Until next week,

Thanks for reading!
